Is is just me or does everyone feel more inspired in the summer? No seriously, if I’m making a resolution in my life chances are it’s happening in June, not January.
Perhaps it’s the nice weather that makes me want to fill my days with things that are good for me. I’m much more likely to take care of myself when I can easily walk or ride my bike somewhere. In the winter, I’d rather stay inside always. I just hate the cold so. damn. much.
This summer I’m looking forward to so many exciting things. Read on to discover my summer bucket list 2016…
RECOMMIT TO YOGA
If I could, I would do yoga all day errrr day. Alas, that little nuisance called “life” gets in the way. But watching my sister grow her practice and fulfill her dream of opening a yoga studio in Florence has reignited my passion. Seriously, check out her Instagram feed for some intense inspiration! Instead of quitting my day job and moving to India I think I’ll stick with the realistic attempt of making it to two classes per week. I’m aiming to take one Yoga Sculpt and one C2 at Corepower in Lincoln Park. I think they will also help tremendously with my marathon training (see below).
COMMUNICATE WITH MY SISTER
Having a sister live 4,678 miles away from you is no joke. Especially since we’re each others only sibling. It’s easy for me to rest on my laurels and rely on the fact that we’re so tight in order to maintain my sanity without her nearby. But it’s time to start nurturing our relationship again. We’re lucky to live in an age of technology that allows me to talk to her more often than not. Even with the seven hour time difference, we manage to text pretty regularly. But I want to schedule one hour two times per month to set aside and FaceTime her. If I put in the work, I know we’ll remain close even when we’re so far apart.
STICK TO MY MARATHON TRAINING
This is going to be the toughest one! I know I can do it, but I can already tell some days I’m going to really have to dig deep to find the motivation to keep up with my training. And training doesn’t include just running. It means doing my strengthening exercises every night, rolling out my muscles, eating well, getting enough sleep, and stretching daily. Whew, I’m tired already!
COOK FIVE NEW RECIPES
No, this doesn’t include our weekly Blue Apron meals, which you all know I am a major fan of already. When we don’t have a Blue Apron meal lined up, I find myself resorting to basically two recipes (baked fish and brussels sprouts). Since Tom does the majority of cooking in our household I’d really like to step up and attempt five new recipes before fall. Any suggestions?! Remember, simple is clutch for this non-chef.
PRACTICE SAFE SUNBLOCK
With summer upon us there is no better time to up my sun-protection game. Check out my post on safe sunblocks to keep you burn free all summer long. My goal is to make it to fall without a single burn!
DO ONE NICE THING (WITHOUT TELLING ANYONE!)
Sheesh. This one is not easy for me. Admittedly, my ego errs on the larger side. I know I would benefit from a little humility in my life, so I’m going to attempt to do one nice thing for someone each week and not tell a single soul about it. Already I can feel my ego flaring up! If I tell someone, then it doesn’t count. We’ll see how my soul feels after a few weeks of trying it out.
PRACTICE MEDITATION
Yikes. This one already scares me. What is it about setting aside five minutes a day that overwhelms me?! If anything, I should look forward to the mental break. I’ve had some friends suggest good apps so I might try one. I also think if I aim to meditate in the afternoon as opposed to the morning I may have more success. We’ll see!
PLAN A PARTY
This year is the big 3-0 folks. Surprisingly, I’m not at all stressed about turning 30. But I think it will be fun to celebrate with my mom, who also has an August birthday. So we’re planning a co-birthday party that I think will be great fun!
FLOSS DAILY
Need I explain? Also, sorry mom, flossing was never my strong suit!
COMPLETE MY CLASS
I am super excited to be taking an interior design course at the Art Institute this summer! As if I didn’t already have enough on my plate 😉 But this class runs for a month so I think I can make it happen and still not burn out. I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds!!

Great goals. Sounds busy. Good luck!
