So autumn has arrived and you may be wondering how to transition your home from the clean, fresh summer vibes you were rocking to the earthy, warm vibes of fall. Never fear! Today I’ll walk you through seven easy ways to take your home from easy-breezy to warm and cozy!
1. LAYER WITH LOVE
When autumn hits, the first thing I do is pull out ALL the layers. Not only in my wardrobe, but in my home too! It’s the easiest way to add some depth to a room and up the coziness factor. Cable-knit throws, warm woolly blankets, or faux-fur pillows can all add that cozy fall vibe. Think blankets draped over furniture, or quilts folded in a stack near the fireplace. Speaking of the fireplace…
2. FIRE IT UP
If you have a fireplace in your home, then you had better be using it during the colder season! There is nothing cozier than snuggling up next to a fireplace (wrapped in said warm woolly blanket) with a good book. And if yours is wood-burning that’s even better! Get some comfy floor cushions so you can get up close and stay toasty.
3. PLAY WITH PLAID
The quintessential fall pattern? PLAID. Plaid blankets, plaid pillows, plaid dishcloths – you name it. Plaid adds an instant autumn vibe in a space. Heck, you can even use that plaid cape as a throw on a chair! #multitasking
4. FIND A SIGNATURE SEASONAL SCENT
You know how the smell of balsam instantly transports you to Christmastime? Try establishing a “fall scent” with candles that have notes of pumpkin, maple, cedar, or spice.
5. PLAY IT AGAIN SAM
Don’t underestimate the power of sound to cozy up your home. To me, nothing says fall like the Charlie Parker Spotify station. I have it playing non-stop throughout the fall and winter months. Something about that music makes me feel all warm and velvety. It totally makes my house feel like a warm and moody jazz club.
6. COOK UP SOMETHING SPECIAL
Fall is my favorite time to experiment with new recipes. The best part? The delicious smells that come from the kitchen! If you’re not the cooking kind, fret not. Try making an autumnal simmer by throwing some cinnamon sticks, cloves, nutmeg, allspice, and orange peel in a small saucepan with water. Simmer on low on the stove top for a few hours and your home is guaranteed to smell like Thanksgiving dinner!
7. GET LUXE WITH YOUR LINENS
Autumn is PRIME TIME to step it up in the bedroom. Flannel sheets are the ultimate cozy touch – making bed even harder to roll out of on those chilly fall mornings! Lately I’ve been loving this bedding company – they have such classic and timeless pieces. Be sure to add a down comforter in a soft duvet for the coziest bedroom yet!
