I was cursed gifted with an insane sense of smell. I’m talking crazy intense here people. Like woke-me-up-the-other-night-because-I-thought-I-smelled-gas intense. Remember this post?
I know, insane.
But one of the perks of being on the far side of the sensory spectrum is that when something smells good, I don’t need much to fulfill my appetite. Enter this heaven-on-earth stove top simmer, just in time for fall! It’s one of my favorite ways to set the mood (like I mentioned in this post) and bring the seasons indoors. Honestly, I throw mine together this time of year and re-use it til Christmas! Just add a little water as it boils off over time and you’re made in the shade.
Here is what you will need…
- 2 orange peels
- 1 apple, cored and sliced
- 5 cinnamon sticks
- 1 tablespoon whole cloves
- 1 teaspoon allspice
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 3 cups of water (and more later on)
Here is what you will do…
- Throw everything in a small saucepan and bring to a boil
- Reduce to a simmer and let sit for 35 minutes
Let this sucker sit on your stove top throughout the fall and winter months and you are guaranteed the ultimate cozy factor. I like to let it simmer for about a half hour per day – just add water as it boils off. Your house will smell divine!
What else do you guys like to do to make your space feel seasonal?
