The foundation of a room’s tone is determined by major things like square footage, furniture, wall color, and windows/natural light. But it’s the little things that really give a room its personality.
One of my favorite pastimes is arranging and rearranging rooms. I’ve loved this ever since I was a little girl. I remember styling my American Girl doll Kirsten’s dining table so it was just right. And subsequently getting pissed if someone moved even so much as a (fake) berry.
Brass hardware is everywhere these days and I am loving it. I know, most of you are having horrid flashbacks to the 80’s where “garish” took on a whole new meaning. Yes, brass fixtures from the 80’s look outdated. No, brass is not for the faint of heart. These days it’s taking a much subtler approach, with matte, satin, and brushed finishes as opposed to the highly polished stuff from the previous era. If you’re wanting to try it out without diving in too deep try swapping out the hardware on a dresser or console table for one of these more modern, muted versions. Avoid anything too detailed or intricate and stick with clean lines.
