Have you guys heard of No Text Weekend?
I’m equal parts thrilled and terrified at the thought of not texting for an entire weekend. And really, the movement’s purpose is to simply encourage personal conversation, not discourage utilizing technology.
I loathe talking on the phone. There may be some people who can chat for hours, who love to have long, luxurious talks via the telephone, but I am not one of those people. If people need to reach me, they usually know to text.
That being said, it’s nice to connect in human form as opposed to virtual life. We spend so much of our time in the virtual world – we see photos instead of faces, hear tweets instead of voices – touch screens instead of skin. It can be isolating, without our even knowing it. Something that makes me put down the phone and participate in this life usually makes me feel good. I rarely regret taking the time to unplug.
So however it is you like to go off-grid, try doing that even just for a few hours this weekend. I know this movement has inspired me to give it a try, even if it’s just for a little while.
Happy living.
