Wedding season is upon us, folks. Having just gotten back from my sister’s wedding in Italy I wanted to share some helpful tips when packing for a wedding abroad! If you’re headed overseas or traveling to a destination wedding, here are my top five helpful packing suggestions.
1. CHECK THE WEATHER – RELIGIOUSLY
I know weather forecasts aren’t always reliable – but if you check them religiously a month in advance, you’ll have a pretty good idea of the general temperature. For example, we knew it was going to be sweltering in Florence (like 95 degrees!) so we had to pack accordingly.
2. STICK TO A COLOR PALETTE
It’s much easier to pull together outfits when you’ve got a cohesive color palette to work with. I remember I used to try to pack specific outfits in the past, but I’d always end up over-packing and not wearing half the clothes I brought. This trip I stuck to blues and whites, with a couple touches of blush and black. It made getting dressed SO much easier. I could throw on practically anything and be guaranteed it would work. Even my dress for the wedding was blue, so I didn’t have to worry about coordinating different shoes or accessories for just one look!
3. INVEST IN GOOD LUGGAGE
I had to pack a lace dress, and Tom had to pack a suit, so we would have greatly benefited from something like this. Also, to be totally honest, we could stand to upgrade our suitcases in general. They’re pretty ratchet. I’d suggest something like this. Would have made traveling so much more enjoyable!
4. GET INSPIRED
Let your surroundings influence you! Chances are the happy couple chose this place for a reason. Are you in Mexico? Channel your inner mamacita. Italy? Take a fashion cue from the incredible architecture that surrounds you. Pack clothing that fits the weather but also the atmosphere of the place. You’ll feel less “tourist” and more like you belong there!
5. DON’T STRESS
I know traveling abroad can feel overwhelming for some people. Remember, you can get almost anything you need or forgot over there too! It takes so much pressure off when I’m not panicking I’ll forget something while packing. I think more clearly, and honestly am more excited for the trip!

Taking less is good advice. I’ve packed clothes I didn’t wear.
