Oh hello winter, so nice of you to pop back in.

This last week has been a total tease in terms of weather. Chicago is notorious for its brutal winters, so Mother Nature really threw us a bone with the past few days. Upper 60’s, clear skies, birds chirping, and so. much. sunshine. No seriously, I really needed that heavy-duty dose of Vitamin D.
As people took to the streets to enjoy the uncharacteristically nice weather (it is, after all, FEBRUARY), I was reminded of how much I love living in this city. I was met with countless smiles and happy faces – excited, no doubt, by the premature release from hibernation. Chicago winters grab you by the bones and hold you captive for a good five months, so it’s no wonder when we saw the sun we flocked like seagulls. There’s something so magical about passing a stranger on the street, smiling to each other, nodding because you both know the other is as excited about the sunshine as you are. Maybe it’s that we feel bonded; we survived the trauma together and are closer for it.
Regardless, we’ve since been plummeted back to the depths of cold. While I’m so thankful for the warm spell, I’m also that much more devastated that spring isn’t actually here yet. What do you do to keep from going insane? I’m trying to settle back into “cozy,” which right now just feels so WINTER. But a soft scarf, a cup of hot chocolate, a good book seem to offer a little comfort.
What do you do to beat the winter blues? Or when a spring breeze teases your soul (and subsequently sucks it back out?) I’m planning on distracting myself with some nesting over the weekend. We’re going to paint our bedroom Hague Blue (one of my all-time favorite colors). It’s gonna look amazeballs.
Whatever you do, I hope you find a way to keep the winter blues at bay and find a little extra comfort over the weekend!

I’ve always believed Chicago winters are the reason Chicago families are closer. We are (a little bit 😬) stuck inside with each other all winter and that helps make for close knit Midwest family life!
